Grand Astronomy Outreach to Celebrate IYA2009 in Nepal at Bhaktapur Durbar Square on November 19,2009

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) organized a grand Star party at the historic city of Nepal- Bhaktapur at the Durbar Square on 19th November 2009. This became one of the greatest outreach program conducted by NASO till date. The observers were over 1000 (thousand) in number including students, local people, police officers, women, street children to high level officers. NASO used its two 76 mm Celestron FirstScopes and one 206 mm SkyWatcher Dobsonian reflecting telescopes to observe celestial bodies.

Observers were quite exited to see the bravura Jupiter and its four Galilean moons- Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto including our own moon. People were quite astonished to see the rough surface of our moon and its craters. A number of questions were arisen which were answered by NASO team members. Also Er. Rishi Shah, Academician of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and President of NASO explained the night sky exquisiteness to the locals. Canadian Film Company Acquainted Films Inc. captured the event for the upcoming 90 minute documentary entitled "Acquainted With The Nights". They also interviewed Mr. Suresh bhattarai, the executive Founder member of NASO and Er. Rishi Shah as a part of their documentary session.
