Registration Open for "4th National Astronomy Olympiad 2017"!

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) is pleased to announce application open for the 4th National Astronomy Olympiad 2017 (NAO2017) today! Students can submit their application till Wednesday, March 22, 2017! Please feel free to visit www.nationalolympiad.org for all the details.

NAO2017 will be held in Nepal during March-June, 2017. Students can visit our office in Kathmandu or meet our representatives (nearest) to submit their application forms.

Please note that the entrance exam will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 during during 12:00 PM- 2:00PM.

Students who are currently studying upto grade XII or recently graduated but has not joined any university program is eligible to apply. S/he must be less than 20 years on 30th June, 2017!

How to apply for NAO2017?
  • Collect Application Form from one of the places mentioned above or download from nepalastronomicalsociety.org/olympiad
  • Deposit the application fee: NRs 1,000/- at our bank account. Below are the details of our bank account:

(while making deposit, please make sure you write your full name instead of your signature)
  • Submit the duly filled application form, photocopies of SLC marksheet & character certificate and deposit slip at one of the centers
  • Attend entrance exam. Details of the exam centers will be available prior to the selection exam.

Winners of 4th NASO National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition 2017 announced today!

Nepal Astronomical Society is pleased to announce the winners of 4th NASO National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition 2017 which was held during December 29, 2016 till January 31, 2017. The winners will be provided cash prizes: NRs 5,000/-, NRs 1,000/- and NRs 500/- and Certificates during one of the ceremonies in Kathmandu in 2017.

We would like to congratulate Mr. Samrat Rai from Sunsari, Mr. Rahul Shrestha from Kathmandu and Mr. Parakhee Maila Tamang fromSindhuli for bagging first, second and third prize with their best creations respectively.

An evaluation committe was formed to evaluate all the logos received during the competition this year. Members of the evaluation committee were Mr. Suresh Bhattarai, Chairman- NASO, Ms. Manisha Dwa, Project Coordinator -NASO, Mr. Laxman Dangol, Magaging Director at RevoScience Monthly Magazine and Mr. Jaydev Koirala, Senior Designer.

Here is how Mr. Samrat Rai,first prize winner reacted upon hearing the selection:
Thank you for choosing my design as the winner of the 4th NASO National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition 2017. I'm very happy and I feel privileged that my design will be the official logo for your event. I'm thankful to NASO for organizing this competition and allowing designers like me to showcase their skills. I'm also very grateful to my friends who encouraged me to take part in this competition. Lastly, I feel honored to be a small part of the NASO family. Thank you. Peace!!"

The first prize logo will be used as an official logo for 4th National Astronomy Olympiad 2017– Nepal! National Astronomy Olympiad started in Nepal since 2014. 

Students who Student who is currently studying at high school (upto class 12) or high school graduate who has not joined university program is eligible to apply for 4th National Astronomy Olympiad 2017 .Also s/he must be less than twenty years on 30th June of this year.

1st NASO Women In Science Award 2017!

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) is pleased to announce 1st NASO Women In Science Award 2017 in Nepal. The award will be distributed into two categories: student and professional on March 8, 2017 to encourage and acknowledge the engagement and works of women in science in Nepal.

If you are a student or professional working on science and woman, we strongly encourage you to apply for this award.

The basic idea behind the creation of this award is to identify and acknowledge the contribution that women are doing in the field of science and technology in Nepal. We started Women in Astronomy Nepal (WIAN) last year within NASO in order to create a unique platform for all the women working in science. We believe, this award will add more enthusiam and encouragement among the women who are working in science.

Solar Outreach with Uniglobe HSS at Godawari!

Today, we had solar observation for ~500 high school students from Uniglobe Higher Secondary School at Godawari as a part of their field trip. During the program, students were provided an opportunity to observe the sun through Personal Solar Telescope and 8 inch SkyWatcher Dobsonian telescope. Students will now prepare their reports on the sun and submit as a partial fullfillment of their internal evaluation.

During the program, Ms. Manisha Dwa, project coordinator explained our activities and how students can get involve while Denisha Sapkota and Surya Gyawali handled the solar observation with PST.

Mr. Suresh Bhattarai, our executive chairman, conducted the solar observation with 8 inch SkyWatcher Dobsonian for the participants. He also explained different features of the sun to the participants.

The observation opportunity was the first for all the students with such arrangement!

MechTRIX7.0: 7th National Mechanical Engineering Exhibition 2017 held at IOE, Pulchowk!


MechTRIX7.0: The 7th National Mechanical Engineering Exhibition was held at Pulchowk Engineering Campus, Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University during Febuary 3-5, 2017! This year the exhibition theme was 'Innovation for Sustaibility'. Society of Mechanical Engineering Students (SOMES) was formed in 2007 at Department of Mechanical Engineering at Pulchowk Engineering Campus started this national exhibition in order to provide a national platform for the students and exxhbitors to share their innovation.

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) was one of the supporting organisations of the exhibition including Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN), Nepal Telecom Authority (NTA), Alternetive Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) and others.



We also has a stall to provide latest information about our programs during the exhibition. More than 2,000 visitors stopped by our stall and enjoyed solar observation as well as information sessions on our various programs at 7th National Mechanical Engineering Exhibition, February 3-5, 2017!
