पुरस्कार वितरण कार्यक्रम संपन्न

कोभिड-१९ को कारण रोकिएको 'वर्ड स्पेस विक' संबन्धि विद्यालयतहका विद्यार्थी लक्षित दुई कार्यक्रमको पुरस्कार वितरण कार्यक्रम आज हाम्रो बत्तीसपुतलीस्थित कार्यलयको प्राङ्गणमा सम्पन्न भयो। कार्यक्रममा उपस्थित विजेताहरुलाई प्रतियोगिता अनुसार पुरस्कार, प्रमाणपत्र, नगद, टेलिस्कोप तथा पदक प्रदान गरियो।


सन् २०१९ मा 'द मुन: गेटवे टु द स्टार्स' थिममा संचालित तेस्रो राष्ट्रिय अन्तरिक्ष चित्रकला प्रतियोगितामा प्रथम स्थान हासिल गर्न सफल क्याम्पियन स्कुल, लगनखेलकी सुश्री सुएन भट्टराईले टेलिस्कोप, पटक एवं प्रमाणपत्र प्राप्त गरिन्। समारोहमा उपस्थित तथा प्रतियोगितामा तृतीय हुन सबल द सेलिब्रेसन को-एड स्कुल, जोरपाटीका श्री अमन बस्नेतले प्रमाणपत्र एवं पदक तथा सान्त्वना पुरस्कार प्राप्त गर्न सफल श्री पञ्चकन्या माध्यमिक विद्यालय, छाउनीकी सुश्री सरिता रम्तेलले प्रमाणपत्र एवं गिफ्ट ह्याम्पर प्राप्त गरे। त्यसैगरी सन् २०२० मा 'स्याटेलाइट्स ईम्प्रुभ लाईफ' थिममा संचालित चौथो राष्ट्रिय अन्तरिक्ष चित्रकला प्रतियोगितामा प्रथम स्थान हासिल गर्न सफल किड्स लर्निङ् स्कुल, कुमारीस्थानकी सुश्री रिना चौधरीले टेलिस्कोप, पटक एवं प्रमाणपत्र तथा द्वितीय हुन सफल बुढानिलकण्ठ स्कुल, बुढानिलकण्ठकी सुश्री निति पछाईले प्रमाणपत्र एवं पटक प्राप्त गरिन्।

कार्यक्रमको दोस्रो भागमा सन् २०१९ एवं २०२० मा संचालित राष्ट्रिय अनलाइन अन्तरिक्ष वक्तृत्वकला प्रतियोगिताहरुलाई सम्मान गर्ने तय भएको थियो। कार्यक्रममा उपस्थित दोस्रो राष्ट्रिय अनलाईन अन्तरिक्ष वक्तृत्वकला प्रतियोगिता २०२० मा द्वीतीय हुन सफल ट्रिनिटी कलेज, डिल्लीबजारका श्री रोहन भट्टराईले नगद रू पांच हजार, पदक तथा प्रमाणपत्र प्राप्त गरे।

पुरस्कार वितरण कार्यक्रममा विविध कारणले उपस्थित हुन असमर्थ विजेताहरूले हाम्रो कार्यालयमा आफ्नो संपर्क गरी आफ्नो पुरस्कार संकलन गर्न सक्नेछन्।

राष्ट्रिय अन्तरिक्ष चित्रकला प्रतियोगिताको लागि टेलिस्कोप प्रायोजन गर्नुहुने मेक इन्जिनियरीङ्गका श्री अर्केत महर्जनज्युले यस्ता किसिमका प्रतियोगिताले विद्यार्थीको प्रतिभालाई उजागर गर्न टेवा पुर्याउने बताउनुभयो। कार्यक्रममा श्री पञ्चकन्या माध्यमिक विद्यालय, छाउनीकी प्रधानाध्यापक श्रीमती रुपा मानन्धर, द सेलिब्रेसन को-एड स्कुल, जोरपाटीका उप-प्रधानाध्यापक श्री सागर दाहालज्युले नेपाल एष्ट्रोनोमिकल सोसाईटीसंगको पहिलो भेटको संझना तथा यसले विद्यालय तहका विद्यार्थी तथा शिक्षकका संचालन गर्ने कार्यक्रमहरुको प्रशंसा गर्नुभयो। कार्यक्रममा 'वर्ड स्पेस विक' का लागि नेपाल संयोजक तथा नेपाल एस्ट्रोनोमिकल सोसाइटीकी निर्देसक/परियोजना संयोजक सुश्री मनिषाद्वाले विजयी संपूर्णमा बधाई दिदै सन् २०२१ को लागि यी दुई प्रतियोगिताको आवेदन छिट्टै खुलाईने बताउनुभयो। साथै उहाँले यो वर्षको थिम 'विमिन इन स्पेस' रहेको जानकारी गराउनुभयो।

सन् १९९९ मा संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघले घोषणा गरेसंगै सन २००० देखी विश्वव्यापी रुममा अक्टोबर ४-१० वा सेरोफेरोमा मनाउन थालिएको वर्ड स्पेस विक कार्यक्रम नेपाल एष्ट्रोनोमिकल सोसाईटीले आफ्नो स्थापनाकाल सन् २००७ देखी हरेक वर्ष विभिन्न कार्यक्रम आयोजना गर्दै राष्ट्रियस्तरमा मनाउँदै आइरहेको छ।

पुरस्कार वितरण कार्यक्रममा उपस्थित संपूर्ण विजेता तथा अभिभावकज्युहरू प्रति हार्दिक धन्यवाद् तथा बधाई दिन चाहन्छौं ।

श्री पञ्चकन्या माध्यमिक विद्यालयलाई टेलिस्कोप उपहार

नेपाली सांगीतिक क्षेत्रका एक नक्षत्र श्री योगेश्वर अमात्यज्युले हाम्रो संपर्कमा रही राम्रो प्रदर्शन गरिरहेका सामुदायिक विद्यालयहरूमध्ये एकलाई टेलिस्कोप उपहार दिने इच्छा व्यक्त गरेसंगै उक्त टेलिस्कोप छाउनीस्थित श्री पञ्चकन्या माध्यमिक विद्यालयलाई प्रदान गर्ने निर्णय गरियो। उक्त निर्णय बमोजिम आज विद्यालयका प्रधानाध्यापक श्रीमती रुपा मानन्धरज्युलाई उक्त टेलिस्कोप हस्तान्तर गरिएको छ। टेलिस्कोप पाएर विद्यालयका शिक्षक/शिक्षिका तथा विद्यार्थी निकै हर्षित देखिएका छन्। आगामी दिनमा उक्त टेलिस्कोपको समुचित उपयोग गर्न विद्यालय प्रशासन एवं विद्यार्थी भाइबहिनीहरूलाई हाम्रो निरन्तर सहयोग रहनेछ।

Meet and Greet an Astronaut with Dr. Sandra H. Magnus and Award Ceremony!

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) in association with Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) organized an event to award and motivate the young generation working in the field of science in Nepal. The chief guest of the event was Dr. Sandra Magnus (Former Astronaut of NASA) who helped students in the program to know about space science and its possibilities in our environment.



The event was attended by around 150 people which included mainly students and teachers who had their keen interest in space science. They all were glad to know about space science from the person who had already been 135 days in space. "Ask an Astronaut" session helped students to present their question and know about science and technology.


Dr. Sandra H Magnus is an American engineer and a former NASA astronaut. She served as the executive director of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the world's largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession from October 2012 until January 2018. While at NASA, Dr. Magnus worked extensively with the international community, including the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), as well as with Brazil on the facility-type payload.


In the very occasion, the Second  Women in Science Awards were also given to Ms. Shreeti Shrestha, B.E. Computer Engineering student at Pulchowk Engineering Campus, IOE, TU and Er. Promisha Mishra, Computer Engineer at Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) respectively. The award included a cash prize, trophy and certificates. 


Also, the winner of First National Space Art Competition were awarded with telescopes, medals and certificates respectively. It gave them more motivation for continuing their passion in the field of science.

The winners of 4th National Astronomy Olympiad 2017 were also awarded by Dr. Sandra Magnus. Many professor and teacher along with chief guest Dr. Sandra Magnus presented their topics to help the student know about the possibilities of science and technology.

This year, the cash prize is sponsored by Er. Rishi Shah, Academician at NAST and patron at NASO and Trophies and certificates are sponsored by Er. Nancy Dwa, one of the Board of Directors at NASO respectively.

Get Ready for the 5th National Astronomy Olympiad on February 17, 2018!

Following the great success of our previous versions of the olympiad in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017; the application for the 5th National Astronomy Olympiad was opened on December 10, 2017! This year, we will have exam centers at Biratagar, Chitwan, Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal and Dhangadi. We are adding one major cities each year so that students have better access to this program in Nepal.

How to apply at NAO2018?
  • Download Application Form and Handbook from www.nepalastronomicalsociety.org/olympiad
  • Go through the handbook to know details of the program, model questions, syllabus, schedule, etc and most importantly contact details of our focal point in your region.
  • Prepare your application (DO NOT LEAVE THE MOTIVATION SECTION EMPTY) carefully.
  • Visit one of the branches of Megha Bank Ltd. nearby you to deposit the application fee.
  • Submit your complete application documents (application form, application fee payment bank deposit slip, copies of SEE marksheet and charecter certificate)



 Currently Nepal has three National Science Olympiads: Physics, Astronomy & Mathematics that go to International Olympiads. You can get registration details about Physics and Mathematics Olympiads on their respective websites.

National Astronomy Olympiad started in 2014 and growing slowly providing a better opportunity to the participants to learn from each others during its closed camp sessions.

In December, orientation programs on astronomy olympiad program were held in Chitwan and Pokhara providing interested students to know more about the program in person.

As a student need to deposit the application fee at Bank and include slip in the application, we strongly encourage interested students to complete their application before the deadline!

How to collect the T-shirt?
  • Submit your application and tell our collection center your size: L or XL. You can receive your T-shirt on the same day or within a week depending on the collector center and availability of your data to our office in Kathmandu.

NASO 5th National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition Result Announced Today!

We are pleased to announce the winners of our NASO 5th National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition!

Lets congratulate the winners for their worderful works:
  • First Prize: Safal Shrestha
  • Second Prize: Ayush Pandey
  • Third Prize: Surya Gyawali
The competition was open during September 25-November 15, 2017. Our judges carefully evaluated all the logos. The judging panel included NASO executives, astronomy olympiad committee members and teachers selected for the astronomy olympiad exposure camp which was held in India during last month.

Safal Shrestha, 16 years science student currently studying at class 11 at Capital College and Research Center (CCRC), Koteshwor, Kathmandu, expressed, “It was an unimaginable moment for me to achieve first place in the logo designing competition where many skilled people had participated alongside me. It was the first competition I entered related to graphic design. I had put all my hard work in this design and all the skills I’ve learnt since I laid my hands on Photoshop one and a half years ago. I’d like to thank NASO for making me believe that passion is everything and I’m really delighted to get such opportunity.”

The first prize winning logo will be used as an official logo for our 5th National Astronomy Olympiad 2018.

The winning logos will get cash prize of NRs. 5, 000/-, NRs. 1, 000/- and NRs. 500/- with certificates respectively during a ceremony organized in Kathmandu in 2018.

Winners of 4th NASO National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition 2017 announced today!

Nepal Astronomical Society is pleased to announce the winners of 4th NASO National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition 2017 which was held during December 29, 2016 till January 31, 2017. The winners will be provided cash prizes: NRs 5,000/-, NRs 1,000/- and NRs 500/- and Certificates during one of the ceremonies in Kathmandu in 2017.

We would like to congratulate Mr. Samrat Rai from Sunsari, Mr. Rahul Shrestha from Kathmandu and Mr. Parakhee Maila Tamang fromSindhuli for bagging first, second and third prize with their best creations respectively.

An evaluation committe was formed to evaluate all the logos received during the competition this year. Members of the evaluation committee were Mr. Suresh Bhattarai, Chairman- NASO, Ms. Manisha Dwa, Project Coordinator -NASO, Mr. Laxman Dangol, Magaging Director at RevoScience Monthly Magazine and Mr. Jaydev Koirala, Senior Designer.

Thank you for choosing my design as the winner of the 4th NASO National Astronomy Olympiad Logo Competition 2017. I'm very happy and I feel privileged that my design will be the official logo for your event. I'm thankful to NASO for organizing this competition and allowing designers like me to showcase their skills. I'm also very grateful to my friends who encouraged me to take part in this competition. Lastly, I feel honored to be a small part of the NASO family. Thank you. Peace!!"

The first prize logo will be used as an official logo for 4th National Astronomy Olympiad 2017– Nepal! National Astronomy Olympiad started in Nepal since 2014. 

Students who Student who is currently studying at high school (upto class 12) or high school graduate who has not joined university program is eligible to apply for 4th National Astronomy Olympiad 2017 .Also s/he must be less than twenty years on 30th June of this year.

1st NASO Women In Science Award 2017!

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) is pleased to announce 1st NASO Women In Science Award 2017 in Nepal. The award will be distributed into two categories: student and professional on March 8, 2017 to encourage and acknowledge the engagement and works of women in science in Nepal.

If you are a student or professional working on science and woman, we strongly encourage you to apply for this award.

The basic idea behind the creation of this award is to identify and acknowledge the contribution that women are doing in the field of science and technology in Nepal. We started Women in Astronomy Nepal (WIAN) last year within NASO in order to create a unique platform for all the women working in science. We believe, this award will add more enthusiam and encouragement among the women who are working in science.

Second National Astronomy Olympiad 2015 (NAO-2015) Winners Announced!

We are pleased to announce the result of Second National Astronomy Olympiad 2015 (NAO-2015) which was held during January 1-June 20, 2015 in Nepal. The program was conducted in two round and top five students have been decided as winners of this year’s competition based on their overall performance during the competition.

We would like to congratulate below mentioned students for their best performance during the competition and announced them as NAO2015 Winners:
  1. Aashish Poudel - Valmiki Shiksha Sadan Higher Secondary School, Chitwan 
  2. Bibek Kumar Pandit - St.Xavier's College-Maitighar, Kathmandu 
  3. Rajit Chaulagain - Saipal Academy, Kathmandu 
  4. Sandesh Chapagain - Chelsea International Academy, Kathmandu 
  5. Shilpa Bhandari - Pentagon International College, Kathmandu
Winners will be participating in the upcoming 9th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) which will be held in Indonesia during July 26-August 4, 2015.

Winners are requested to contact our office for further information regarding the pre-departure training and participation in IOAA.

If any student fails to confirm their participation in IOAA, he or she will be replaced by the student from the waiting list in order to make complete national delegation of Nepal. The final list of students participating in the IOAA will be published prior to the departure.

National Astronomy Olympiad 2015: Pre-Registration Available NOW!

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) announced call for pre-registration for the National Astronomy Olympiad 2015 today and will remain open until the announcement of selection examination details. We encouraged all the interested and eligible students for the pre-registration so that you will get an email about the details on the selection exams when available! 

Only Nepalese students born after January 1, 1996 and having studied upto higher secondary studies are eligible to apply for this program.If you are interested for the program and wish to participate, click here to APPLY NOW!



The National Astronomy Olympiad Program is a national educational program designed by Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) and ESPRO Foundation to encourage Nepalese students who pursue further studies in Physics,Maths,Astronomy & Space Science.

RESULT AVAILABLE:National Astronomy Olympiad- Teacher Training 2014

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) is pleasured to announce the result of National Astronomy Olympiad- Teacher Training 2014.

We have received 52 applications  from under graduate students, teachers and communicators from different part of Nepal as well as abroad.  We had very had time to select only five faces from those 52 aspiring and motivated applicant. After the careful review of their application, motitation and engagement in science, we finally decided the five faces as:
  1. Mr. Suman Gautam: Bhadrakali Higher Secondary School, Pokhara, Kaski
  2. Mr. Ashok Timsina: Mahendra Morang Campus, Biratnagar, Morang
  3. Mr. Rajan Prajapati: United Academy, Kmaripati, Lalitpur
  4. Mr. Mahesh Poudel: St. Xavier's College, Maitighar, Kathmandu
  5. Mr. Santosh Parajuli: Central Campus, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Kathmandu
They will participate in the upcoming Astronomy Exposure Camp, November 10-13, 2014 at Homi Bhabha Center For Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India.


One of the selected participant shared his feeling with us as "I am quite gratified to be selected for the National Astronomical Olympiad (NAO)- Teacher’s Training 2014. To know that after implementing whatever I learn from the program back in my country, I will be a driving force for the recognition of Nepal in an international event (Astronomy Olympiad), gives me immense pleasure. Further, to be a part of a student’s journey of discovering their hidden potential through learning by going beyond the conventional text books. APPLY NOW:National Astronomy Olympiad- Teacher Training 2014

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) announces call for application for the teacher training programme that will be conducted during the second week of November 2014. Applicants are requested to fill this form keeping the following points under consideration:
  • Maximum of five teachers will be selected for the programme
  • Applicants should be a current student of M.Sc. Physics or M.Sc. Physics graduate with Astrophysics as his/her major
  • Selected applicants will be obliged to volunteer during the Second National Astronomy Olympiad 2015 that will be conducted during January-June 2015
  • Applicants are requested to submit their latest CV to info.naso@gmail.com after submitting this form with a Subject: NAO2015-Applicant's Name

There is no registration fees for this training programme. Selected applicants will be responsible for their travel to the training location and back on their own.

National Astronomy Olympiad 2014 (NAO-2014) Organizing Committee has announced the result of NAO-2014, First National Astronomy Olympiad in Nepal.


We would like to congratulate all the winners of NAO2014 and wish them all the best for their performance in 8th International Olympiad in Astronomy & Astrophysics (IOAA) during August 1-11, 2014 in Suceava, Romania.

Nepal Celebrates 80th Birth Anniversary of Yuri Gagarin- First Man in Space!

Russian Centre of Science and Culture Kathmandu (RCSC-Kathmandu), Nepal Academy of Science & Technology (NAST), B.P. Koirala Memorial Planetarium, Observatory and Science Museum Development Board, Nepal Physical Society, Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) and Nepal Science Olympiad are jointly organised a solemn meeting to mark the Cosmonautic Day (April 12) and the 80th Birth Anniversary of the first man in space-Yuri Gagarin at 3:30 PM -5:00 PM, April 9, 2014 at RCSC-Kathmandu.

Solar Observation & Photo Exhibition at Jyoti Kunj Secondary School Pokhara!

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) in coordination with Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS), western chapter, organized one day Astrophoto Exhibition and Solar Observation Session during the Science Exhibition at Jyoti Kunj Secondary School, Pokhara, Nepal. The school management has announced three day celebration of their 25th Anniversary with different programs during January 29-31, 2014.

Quadrantid Meteors Captured from Kathmandu, Nepal!

Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) organized Quadrantid Meteor Shower Observation Campaign at Pharping, an ancient city of Kathmandu Valley, nearby Dakshinkali Temple on January 3-4, 2014. A five members team from NASO performed photography session, night sky observation session and solar observation session during the campaign.

The National Astronomy Olympiad Programme is designed by Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) and ESPRO Foundation to encourage Nepalese students with good foundations in Physics and Mathematics and an interest in Astronomy to pursue further studies in this field. It involves a four stages process leading to participation of Nepalese team in the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). This year the IOAA is going to be held in Suceava, Romania, 1-10 August, 2014.

The Winner of National Astronomy Olympiad 2014 (NAO2014) announced: Congratulations Kapil Rokaya!

The organizing committee of National Astronomy Olympiad 2014 (NAO2014) Nepal has announced Mr. Kapil Rokaya as the winner of National Astronomy Olympiad 2014 Logo Competition now!!!

After getting the news, Kapil Rokaya, permanent resident of Bajura expressed, "I was very excited when i got the email from NASO that my design got selected for final logo of National Astronomy Olympiad 2014. And when I received the phone call my excitement level got double. It's great achievement that helps me for my further work. I am hearty thankful towards NASO. Thank You again NASO for this award."

During the announcement, Chair of NAO 2014 Organizing Committee - Rishi Shah, academician at Nepal Academy of Science and Technology - NAST and President at NASO praised the works of all the applicants and says: " The young generations interest for astronomy to reach out for the star and know more about the universe and our planet, solar system was very encouraging conformation for organizers like us feels great. We were fascinated by the interest of contestants and their enthusiasm in astronomy. And this is the very encouraging sign for the organizers to conduct such program."

Manish Dwa, Project Coordinator at NASO and part of the NAO 2014 organizing committee  said regarding the logo as well as further plan, "Within a short span of time too, we were able to get some very high quality logos from different parts of Nepal. Core members of the organizing team were the jury and the judgement was done without any kind of biasing. The qualities of the logos received were high. And now the applications will open and we are really look forward for a huge participation from high school science students across Nepal. " 

Prabodh Rijal, President of ESPRO Foundation one of the organizers about the participation in the logo competition as he said, "The participation was good. People are creative and responsive." There was a huge participation and support from amateurs to professionals applying for the competition. Finally out of many contestants Kapil Rokaya bagged the grand prize. Kapil will be acknowledged and handed over the cash prize at the grand ceremony of National Astronomy Olympiad 2014.

NAO 2014 is designed to encourage Nepalese high school students with good foundations in Physics ,Mathematics and an interest in Elementary Astronomy to pursue further studies in this field are encouraged to participate. The Nepalese delegation will participate in 8th International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) going to be held in Suceava, Romania, 1-10 August, 2014.

Gaurav Kandel, Founding Initiator of View Your Choice,outreach partner, said regarding NAO 2014, "We are extremely glad to extend the collaboration with National Astronomy Olympiad.
